Aardman Master Class

I was extremely lucky to attend a master class in model making and rapid prototyping given by Amanda Darby (RPT Dept.Supervisor at Aardman Animations). Here she is below holding one of the puppets from Aardman's latest creation 'The Pirates! - In An Adventure With Scientists'.

Below are some of the replacement mouth shapes for one of the puppets.

Bristol Encounters Film Festival

I had an amazing time at Bristol Encounters Film Festival. I saw some fantastic animations; my favourite being 'Luminaris' (Directed by Juan Pablo Zaramella) I was also able to meet John K (Ren and Stimpy Creator) which I was extremely pleased about!

John K drew a caricature of me with Ren and Stimpy.

Puppet Fabrication (part 3)

I made a wire skeleton for the tortoise's shell which I then covered with strips of paper and pva glue. I mixed green and white acrylic paint with some liquid latex and painted the foam puppet.

Puppet Fabrication (part2)

I covered the wire armature with a thick flexible white foam then tightly wrapped thin strips of grey foam over the top to sculpt the shape I wanted.
Finally I shaped the head from a piece of thick white foam, making an incision so that the wire could be secured inside.

Tortoise Puppet Fabrication (part 1)

I made an armature using copper wire, I find it to be a lot stronger than the actual armature wire I have tried.
I secured two pieces of metal in each foot using wire and epoxy glue. This will help when animating as I will use magnets to steady the puppet.
